The AirPods Pro 2 have been out since 2022, and that is exactly the problem: most pairs in use today are a few years old, still wearing their very first eartips. If yours started slipping after months or years of decent fit, you're in the right place. The fixes below run from free to a few euros, in that order.
Why AirPods Pro 2 start falling out over time
Two things go wrong slowly. First, silicone ages: skin oils make the surface slick, and the constant squeezing in and out of your ears stretches the dome. A stretched size medium grips like a small. Second, the AirPods Pro's oval opening means the eartip can't rotate to find a better position; once the grip fades, it's gone everywhere.
And even when the eartips are new, silicone only touches your ear canal in a few spots. Every jaw movement flexes the canal, breaks the seal a little and walks the earbud outwards.
Free fixes, in the order to try them
- Wash the eartips. Pull them off, rinse lukewarm, dry completely. Removing the oil layer alone fixes a lot of slipping.
- Run the Ear Tip Fit Test. Settings, Bluetooth, tap your AirPods. If an eartip stretched, the test now fails where it used to pass.
- Go up a size. A worn medium often needs to become a large. Bigger presses on more skin and grips better.
- Twist-lock them in. Insert, then rotate slightly back and up so the eartip sits behind the ridge of your ear canal.
- Mix sizes per ear. Left and right ear canals are rarely identical.
The structural fix: memory foam eartips
New silicone buys you time; foam changes the physics. Memory foam expands slowly after you insert it and fills the exact shape of your ear canal, so grip comes from the whole surface instead of a few contact points. The seal also boosts what the AirPods Pro 2 are famous for: noise cancelling works measurably better on a sealed ear.

My AirPods Pro 2 fit for years and suddenly fall out. What changed?
Probably the eartips, not your ears. Silicone stretches and hardens with age and skin oils, and a stretched eartip grips a size worse than it used to. If your AirPods are a few years old and still wear their original eartips, replacing the eartips usually restores the fit.
Can I use AirPods Pro 3 eartips on my AirPods Pro 2?
Stick to eartips made for your exact model. The oval mount looks similar between generations, but the geometry and the charging-case clearance differ. foamigo makes a separate foam eartip for each AirPods Pro generation for exactly that reason.
Do foam eartips affect noise cancelling on the AirPods Pro 2?
They usually improve it. ANC works best when the eartip seals your ear canal completely; foam seals better than silicone, so less noise gets in for the ANC to fight, and the bass gets fuller too.
Why don't manufacturers include foam eartips in the box?
Because silicone lasts practically forever. A silicone eartip can be used for 5 to 10 years, so manufacturers can bundle it once and forget about it. Memory foam adapts to your ear but wears out: with intensive daily use a set typically needs replacing after about three months, when the foam stops sealing properly. That's why foam eartips are an upgrade you choose, not a default in the box.
